Shannon Parlee

Mount Allison University - 2005-2009

Shannon is a RHS grad of 2005 and saw great success as both an athlete and scholar while in high school. As an athlete she won awards for both Soccer and Basketball in the JV ranks and went on the collect various tournament awards while playing varsity basketball, most notably at the Lady's Hoop Classic and the Dairytown Classic in Sussex. 

​

Shannon was also recognized in her grade 10 year as the varsity girls rookie of the year and would also collect the MVP for RHS ladies basketball in later years with the Royals. She was named Female Unsung Hero in her graduating year for her contributions to Multi-Sports at RHS as well as being selected as not only an NBIAA All-Star but was selected as the NBIAA's Eastern Conference's Player of the Year in 2005.

​

Shannon would go on to attend Mount Allison after graduation and would continue to grace the hardwood racking up an increasing number of acheivements over the next 4 years. Parlee was not only named Rookie of the year in 2006 for the Mounties Basketball and athletics program she would also claim that honour for the ACAA (Basketball). The Mounties would win the ACAA title while Shannon was in her rookie season. Shannon was also named as Team MVP for the Mounties and in her final year named Athlete of the Year 2009. Shannon was an All-Conference All-Star in each of her 4 years at Mount A.

​

Shannon returned to RHS to coach the JV girls basketball team in 2010 for a season and was the year end athletic banquet's guest speaker in 2006

​

Shannon, on top of being a successful athlete, she excelled in her studies as well. In High school she was awarded the Governor General's Academic Medal and the certificate of Academic Excellence with Distinction.  She was granted a full tuition renewable entrance scholarship at Mt. A. While in university she was a Deans List Honour Student as well as a four-time Academic All Canadian.

​

Shannon continues to follow her basketball passion beyond university. She is the founder of the Moncton Women's Summer Basketball League program and is the NB women's (19+) league treasurer and Director of the Moncton Fox n' Hound Mystics which is set to launch this coming spring 2017.

After graduating from RHS in 2004, Forbes attended Brock University taking general arts and Sports management and playing for the Badgers before heading off to the University of Ottawa for communications where she played for the Ottawa Gee-Gee's.She also did a stint at Loyalist to take sports journalism which helped her land a job as a story editor with the National sports network "SportsCenter" and as an intern with TSN, the Sports Network.

 

Forbes has spent time coaching at various levels including a head coaching gig with U16 guys squad in Ottawa and as an assistant in the Ontario college mens league.

Rebecca Nuttal

Rebecca, started out going through the ranks of the RMBA house league programs showing signs at an early age of the direction her basketball skills would end up taking her in. During Middle school, she would be a presence helping out with the RMBA's puppy program with her Aunt, who coached one of the house league teams.

 

I remember hearing local coaches talking of her skill and abilities being far ahead for her age. She would be a strong presence an force throughout middle school and would go on to join the varsity girls program at RHS under Greg Gould (Presently coaching at UPEI).

 

Rebecca, along with other notable players such as Stephanie Clark, Vanessa Pickard, Jenna Jones, Katie Donahoe and Julie Hatcher would go on to build a dynasty and really put Riverview High School Girls basketball on the map as one of the top programs in the province. In 2008-09 Rebecca was named to the NBIAA all-star team.

​

 

Apart from high school ball, Nuttal was also a fixture in the BNB summer programs and played with the u15, 16 and 17 teams being named as a U15 2nd team all-star.

 

After graduating, Rebecca was accepted to St. Mary's University where she would continue to play for the Huskies. Not just a great ball player, Nuttall was named a CIS Academic All Canadian in 2010, 2011 and 2012 while attending SMU.

 

While attending SMU Rebecca recorded 411 points over 3 seasons averaging 6.7 ppg over 29.3 minutes of play.

 

After the 2012 seaon Rebecca decided to transfer to Dalhousie, she would have to sit out for the year as a red shirt before joining the Tigers on the court for the 2014 season.  Rebecca  played 36 season games for the Tigers and averaged 29 minutes, 7.2 points, 5.8 rebounds 2.2 assists per game.

 

 

Jenna Jones

UPEI 2010-2015

Jones, a high school stand out with great shooting range was also an NBIAA eastern conferance in 2009 and 2010. She was part of Basketball NB's U15,U16 and U17 summer teams.

 

Fourth-year kinesiology student Jenna Jones of the UPEI Panthers is the 2013-14 AUS recipient of the Tracy MacLeod Award.

 

This award rewards a women's basketball player who demonstrates determination, perseverance and unwavering spirit to continue playing the game of basketball and is the AUS nominee for the CIS Tracy MacLeod Award.

 

Jones, a 5-foot-8 guard from Riverview, N.B., played in an impressive 16 regular season games during the 2013-2014 season despite facing multiple injuries, averaging 15.1 minutes per game.

 

Jones has battled patella tendon tears in both knees throughout her four-year career with the Panthers.

 

During the summer of 2013, she underwent experimental platelet rich plasma injections in both knees. She then repeated the procedure during the season break in December. Initially expected to miss the first half of the season, Jones put the second procedure off until the season break and was cleared to play in the fall.

 

Jenna would play in 75 league games and average 9.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while averaging 25.4 min of court time during her 5 years of eligibility.

 

Jones is now the AUS nominee for the CIS Tracy MacLeod award. The only two AUS players to take home the national honour have been Memorial's Brittany Dalton (2010-11) and Dalhousie's Janet Wells (1999-00)

Vanessa Pickard

Vanessa Pickard has been playing basketball since she was five years-old. She was a member of the 15U Developmental team, the 15U team, the 17U team, the Center for Performance, and the National Cadet team.


Pickard is from Riverview and is the younger of two children. She and her brother were given the choice to play basketball or hockey as children, but decided on basketball. “Being the eager little sister that I was, once my brother chose to play basketball I decided to follow him,” she said.

 

Pickard loves the game because it offers an escape from all other aspects of her life. She is a competitor and thrives on the competition that basketball provides.

 

Her experience with Basketball New Brunswick has given her a real sense of Maritime pride. It has also helped her grow and develop, both on and off the court. “The game has given me countless friendships and life lessons, including the importance of teamwork, the persistence of determination, and the thirst for success,” Pickard said.

 

Some of her most memorable moments were making the 15U developmental team on her 12th birthday, being named a first team all-star at 15U nationals, and being named a second team all-star at 17U nationals.

 

Pickard continued her success at St. Francis Xavier University where she was named an AUS second team all-star, AUS rookie of the year, and CIS rookie of the year.

 

She said she wouldn’t have been able to accomplish anything without her parent’s unconditional love and support.“I mean not every parent travels halfway around the world to watch you play basketball,” she said.

 

Pickard also recognizes the input of her coaches throughout her career, including Greg Gould, Joyce, Tyler, and Dick Slipp, and Leslie Forbes. Finally, she acknowledges her various teammates who have helped her succeed by pushing her in practice.

 

Pickard is studying a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics at STFX. In the future she plans to complete her degree and hopefully play professional basketball in Europe. When her basketball career is over she hopes to attend medical school and become a pediatrician.

 

 

Katie Donahoe

UPEI 2011-2016

Katie was Varsity MVP of the year in her grade 12 year at RHS for 2010-2011season. Donahoe was also a member of Riverview High's 3 peat team that won 3 back to back NBIAA titles from 2008-11. 

 

In University she was named rookie of the year for UPEI and has been an academic all Canadian all four years. 

 

Katie, known for her tough defensive style of play was nominated for defensive player of the year in the AUS in each of her 4 years at UPEI. 

 

Katie was also involved with the summer BNB provincial programs where she played U15 developmental in 2007, U15 in 2008, U16 in 2009 and with the U17 team in 2010.

 

Going into her final year of eligibilty, Donahoe has been averaging 23.5 minutes of court time to go along with 3.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists over the 80 league games she,s played to date. 

Katie Lund

Katie was a member of the Royals 3 peat team that won consecutaive back to back to back NBIAA titles from 2008-2011.  She was also Riverview High's  Most Improved player for Varsity women's basketball for the 2009-2010 season.

 

After high school Lund would join the Mount Allison Mounties ladies basketball program and after her first season was named their Rookie of the Year. She has also been an Academic All-Canadian for all three years (2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015) that she has attended Mt. A.  

 

 

Maddy MacDonald

Maddy was another member of the lady Royals 3 peat squad that won back to back to back titles from 2008-2011. She was recognized as the the Varsity girls Most Improved Player twice while at RHS, first in 2010-11, then again in 2011-12.

 

MacDonald would join the Mount Allison Mounties squad after graduation and  has become one of their key players. An athlete of good acedemic standing, Maddy has also been recognized as the Mounties Athlete of the week during her time with Mt A.

Julie Hatcher

UPEI 2013-2015

Riverview High Class of 2010

A member the lady Royals team that won back to back titles in 2008-09 and 2009-2010 seasons, Hatcher would also collect the the Most Improved Player Award for the 2006-2007 and 2008-2009 seasons and the award for Most Valuable Player in her graduating year (2010) at Riverview High.

 

Julie would also play for BNB's U16 and U17 teams as well as for Team NB for the 2009 Canada Games held in Summerside PEI where Team NB finished 5th overall.

 

After High school Julie would join past high school teammates Rebbecca Nuttal and Stephanie Clarke at St.Mary's. Hatcher unfortunately  suffer and season ending ACL injury and miss her rookie season. After sitting out the 2011-12 season, Julie would return to the hard court after transfering to UPEI and being reunited with past RHS teammates Jenna Jones and Katie Donahoe as well as her past coach Greg Gould.

 

Hatcher, known for her great court vision and leadership, would also add depth to the Panthers line up with great outside shooting and tenacious defence.

 

 

Katelyn Scott

Dalhousie 2017 - Present

Katelyn Scott  - 3rd year Kinesiology student and RHS Grad of 2017.  She was an Academic All-Canadian in both 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.

 

Recognized in 2019 in the Women in Leadership Spotlight at DAL for her contributions off the court with various organizations both in Halifax and in Riverview.

​

Katelyn Volunteers at the St. Vincent's nursing home in Halifax and when she is home in Riverview she volunteers at a local basketball camp. She is also a recreational program assistant at a local nursing home.

 

Katelyn played her minor ball with the RMBA rep programs and was a member of the BNB Team NB program for 3 seasons finishing with the U17 squad.

Hannah Grossman

UNBSJ  2017 - Present

Riverview High Class of 2017

Hanna Grossman - 3rd year Science student majoring in Biology-Psychology with a minor in Chemistry. Hanna is a  RHS Grad of 2017. She has been recognized as a CCAA National Award winner for both the 2017 and 2018 school years. On the court, Hanna has been averaging 25.5 min per game, with 8.8 ppg, 6.5reb, 2.2 assts. so far this season for the UNBSJ Seawolves of the ACAA.

UNBSJ is currently on the holiday break but will return to the court Jan 11th for a road game with the Mount Allison Mounties. The Seawolves record stands at 2-4 going into the break.

Hanna was a winner of the Carl Fraser student leadership award winner at University. She also volunteers as a tutor for Promise Partnership(organization for underprivileged youth in Saint John). Outside of university, works for the  Town of Riverview as a coordinator for the children's summer camp program.

While she was at Riverview High, she was awarded Varsity MVP for Basketball in her graduating season and played with the NXT summer basketball program throughout high school. Hannah played provincial basketball with the RMBA's mini and bantam rep programs and has volunteered with coaching the mini spring league as well.
