LOCAL TEAMS ENJOY SUCCESS AT USA TEAM BASKETBELL CAMP

 

Three local teams received had great weekends at the Maine Gold Rush team camp this summer. The NXT Sr. Girls were the Central Division champs at the Gold Rush's High school aged girls camp while the Jr. NXT girls team were crowned the Midnight Madness Champs of the Southern Division.

The "Goon Squad", A team team of Middle school aged boys won their Divison at the Middle school boys team camp.

​

The Gold Rush Camp hosts upwards of 25+ teams in each of their weekend camps. Teams from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and the Maritime provinces all converge to the campus of Colby College for the 3 day weekend camps. Campers can play upwards of a dozen games over the course of the team building camp as well as attend various clinics, seminars and other activities.

RIVERVIEW'S NXT LEVEL GIRLS WIN COMPETITIVE DIVISION AT RED ROCK 

NXT level girls from Riverview bring home another RED ROCK championship in the Competitive Girls division going 5-0 over the weekend at the Island tournament held in Charlottetown.

​

The girls had a pair of wins on Canada Day against two teams from the Halifax area and followed up with a win over the Scotia Sting on Saturday afternoon. The girls defeated BNB U16's on Sunday morning to solidify their spot in the 1st place game with the Western Valley Attack from western NB.

The girls defeated the Attack 75-68 to capture the gold. Every player on Riverview roster hit the score sheet in the final game. Abby Lacey led NXT with 21 while Hannah Grossman kicked in 19 and Grace LeBlanc added another 10 to round out NXT's leading scorers.

PROVINCIAL GOLD FOR DIVISION 2 U13 LADY ROYALS

 

RIverview's U13 girls had a successful weekend going 4-0 to claim the Provincial U13 banner for the ladies Division 2 category.

 

Riverview's Courtney Jones was named to the tournament's All-Star team. 

 

 

MIDGET TEAM WINS DIVISION 2 BANNER

Riverview NXT Level boys recently won the provincial division 2 Midget title.

 

The tournament was held at Leo Hayes High school in Fredericton and the boys went 4-0 over the course of the weekend defeating Fredericton in the final 76-73

BANTAM A BOYS WIN PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT

 

Bantam Boys claim gold at Division 2 Provincials. The boys defeated Kennebecasis Valley in the final by 14 points.

 

The boys opened the weekend Saturday with a 51-45 loss to Moncton before rebounding later in the day to defeat Kennebecasis 50-37, a team that they hadn't beaten all season. In Sunday's Cross-Over game Riverview defeated Fundy 59-34, another team the Royals hadn't seen a win against this season. The Fundy win sent the boys to the final for a rematch against KV and the rest is in the history books!

 

Riverview's Denzal MacDonald took home the MVP hardware for the whole tournament.

Bantam B Boys Win Provincial Silver

 

The Bantam B boys medaled this weekend in the Division 4 BNB Provincial tournament. The guys lost to the host Sackville team in the final but still captured the silver medal for their efforts in the tournament.

 

The guys lost their opener Saturday to Sackville 55-36 but came back in the afternoon to defeat Hampton 53-41. Sunday the Royals came away with an important win over East SJ 58-18 to pave the road to the final.

PROVINCIAL SILVER FOR BOTH MINI GIRLS TEAMS

Both of Riverview's Mini girls teams bring home silver medals from their respective tourneys.

 

The Mini A's were in the Division 2 category hosted by KV and the Mini B's were in the Division 5 category held in Hartland.

Mini A Boys Win Silver at Home Tournament

Take a Silver Medal at their home tournament after losing a close game to Fredericton 53-50.

 

The Royals defeated Amherst 60-54 and lost to KV 53-40 in their round robin games. Riverview played Moncton in the cross over defeating the Hawks 45-42.

Mini B Girls Win Sussex Tourney

The Mini B girls got to bring home a gold medal from their first place finish this weekend in Sussex.

 

The girls defested Fundy 36-21 and Hampton 26-22 on Saturday and then went on to get the crossover win against the host Sussex before the gold medal 50-32 win over Hampton in the final.

Bantam B Boys Win Tourney 4 time in 5 years

Bantam B boys as they bring home the banner from the 5th annual Sackville Invitational Tournament. The boys defeated the host Sackville team in the final 31-25.

 

The boys have been to this tourney 4 of the 5 years it's been running and have won it each time they've been involved.

 

The boys also had wins over Queen Charlotte Middle school (65-18) and Port Elgin (51-34) in round robin play.

Mini A boys Place 3rd

The Mini A boys Claimed bronze at a tournament in KV. The boys went 1-1 in the round robin portion of the tourney defeating Sussex 67-54 and losing to the host KV team in a nail biter 54-53 game.

 

The boys went to the cross-overs against Moncton and lost 61-54 sending them to the third place game against East SJ where they pulled off a 48-43 win over the port city team and earning the Bronze medal.

Silver Finish for Mini B Girls

Mini B Girls -- Hosted their home tournament over the weekend and were awarded a silver medal for their efforts. The lost their opening game against Sackville but came back in the afternoon to defeat the Tommies from Miramichi.

The Royals were on their game Saturday as the defeated Hillsborough in the cross-overs and punched a ticket for the gold medal game versus Sackville. In a back an forth battle the lady Royals would come up just a little short at the final buzzer losing by 6. Still a solid 2nd place and silver medal performance!

Gold Medal Finish for the Mini A Girls at their home Tournament

Riverview Mini A girls claim Gold at their home tournament held at Riverview Middle School over the weekend. The girls defeated Moncton 48-35 in their opening game and went on to defeat Bath later in the day to advance to the cross-overs.

 

Sunday's games saw the girls take on Salisbury and get the go ahead win 37-29 to advance to the gold medal game later in the day where they got the better of the Harvey team 52-27 and claim their tournament's top honour.

Varsity Royals Win CEC Tourney

The boys bring home a banner for the high school gym after defeating CP Allen in the tournament final 84-82. Kyle Rossiter led the Royal attack with 23. Aram Currie had a 21 point game and Justin Drapeau followed up with a 16 point effort.

 

In the earlier games, the guys defeated Rural 68-54 in their opening game of the tourney followed by a loss to the tournament host CP Allen 92-72 before heading into the crossovers where they defeated CEC 85-64.

 

Currie led Riverview in scoring in the cross over game with 23 while Drapeau dropped in 17 and Rossiter added another 13 to round out Riverview's top scorers.

 

Currie was named the tournament MVP and Rossiter was named to the tournament's All-Star team.

Riverview Girls Win Bliss Carmen Tourney

The girls were winners of the Bliss Carmen Invitational over the weekend. The girls held off a late Tommies comeback in the final finishing 41-38 to claim the top honours. Beth McAleese led Riverview with 11 points 10 rebounds and Julie Murray hit the score sheet for 9 points and 8 boards.

 

Riverview went 4-0 in the tournament with other wins over George Street, Sussex and the host Bliss Carmen in their opening game of the tourney.

 

The Royals defeated the host Bliss Carmen team in the their opening game 48-39. Murray would lead Riverview with 12 points and steals and Keira Rafferty would net 9 points and snatch away 5 steals. Emma Bowie grabbed a team high 10 rebounds in a team defensive outing.

 

Natalie Toner led the lady Royals with 13 points in a 47-30 win over Sussex. Bowie had 9 points and 7 rebounds.

 

 

Riverview also took care of business with the George Street team routing them 49-20. McAleese and Anya Smalley each had 11 points for the Lady Royals and Toner, Murray and Kylie Gayler all recorded 6 points each in the win.

Bantam B Girls Finish 3rd in Home Tourney

Bantam B Girls earn a 3rd place finish at their 5 team home tournament. The girls defeated Port Elgin in their first game and went on to a 39-32 victory over Florenceville on Saturday.

They suffered setbacks against Hartland and Hillsborough but still finished with the Bronze!

Mini A Royals Finish 2nd in Fredericton Tournament

The Mini A Boys win Silver at a Fredericton tournament over the weekend. The guys opened with wins over Fredericton North 59-37, Fredericton South 55-52 and KV 52-26 in a busy Saturday schedule.

The Royals defeated Lancaster Sunday morning 55-14 to send them to the gold medal game in the afternoon. The guys played hard but would end up losing to Northside 54-37. A great tournament for the guys and coaches!

 MINI B GIRLS WIN SILVER AT FREDERICTON HOLIDAY CLASSIC

Robin Oxley, the mini B girls coach was "Super proud of our Mini B Girls! They fought through a double overtime win against Moncton 46-44, and they fought to the very end of a close 20-16 gold medal game against YCBC. A silver medal well-earned!"

 

The girls were in Fredericton to take part in the Fredericton Holiday Classic. Awesome job girls!

 

Vatsity Girls Win Fredericton Tourney

The Girls playing with just 7 players on Sunday were able to capture GOLD at the Rick Cotter Classic with a 62-46 win over Leo Hayes in the final.

 

The Girls had earlier wins in the tournament over Saint John High on Friday night 68-58, Kennebecasis Valley on Saturday morning 63-47 and to Charlottetown's Colonel Gray 74-62 on Saturday evening.

 

Riverview's Katelyn Dunnett was named to the tournament All-Star team and Abby Lacey was the 2015 tournament MVP.

Silver Medals For Mini A Boys

The Riverview Mini A Boys were in a tournament at Evergreen school Moncton over the weekend and were awarded a silver medal for their strong efforts.

 

Riverview defeated Moncton 54-46 in their first game and then had another win over Sussex 50-38.

 

The Royals defeated Kennebecasis Valley in the cross-overs by a score of 42-39 before falling to the host Moncton team 68-56 to finish 2nd overall.

RHS JV Boys win weekend tourney

The guys continued their winning ways by claiming top honours at a tournament at Harrison Trimble Saturday, Nov 28th. The guys defeated Leo Hayes 80-77 in a game that was decided on free throws followed by a solid 93-63 win over Moncton high on route to the gold medal game against Miramichi where the Royal boys again showed their dominance with a convincing 84-52 win over the Pulamoo.

Varsity Lady Royals Claim Hoop Classic Bronze

The Girls finished up the 2015 Ladies Hoop Classic with a 94-76 Bronze Medal win over the BMHS Highlanders. Riverview Defensive Player of the Game Grace LeBlanc led Riverview with 19 points and Abby Lacey and Lexi Gant both had 17. Katelyn Scott followed up with 12.

 

In an earlier game Riverview lost to Horton 73-47. Lacey would lead the Royals with 17 and Both Scott and Gant chipped in 9. Hanna Grossman would toss in 6 in the loss.

 

Abby Lacey and Katelyn Dunnett were both given nods as tournament All-Stars and Lexie Gant was awarded a $500 tournament university bursary.

Bantam B Boys win Silver

The Bantam B boys had a busy day on Saturday playing in the Amherst Tournament. With School cancellations on Friday the tournament was shortened to one day with all games being played on Saturday.

 

In the first game the boys came out quick and defeated EB Chandler 46-33. Victor Lopez Melander was selected as player of the game.

In the 2nd game they faced off against a strong Slam team from St Margarets Bay, Nova Scotia.

Even though the boys were outsized the boys played great defense and used their speed to defeat the Slam 50-44. Player of the Game was Matthew Donovan.

 

With the two wins the Royals were heading to the gold medal game against Antigonish. With both teams showing the affects of the 3rd game on the day. The Jr Xmen came away with a 41-27 win leaving the Royals with the Silver Medal. Player of the game was Jacob Reyes.
